Audi E-Tron GT

First the specs for the Audi E-Tron GT: Built by Audi Sport GmBH, the all-wheel-drive Quattro with torque vectoring puts out a hefty 590hp. Using their “flat-floor” architecture (more on that in a bit) resulting in an extremely low center of gravity, handling will be encroaching on super-car territory. Think Audi R8 type handling from a 4-door. Expect to see some records broken on the track. Just sayn’ ­čśë

Next, the performance: Audi expects the Audi E-Tron GT to accelerate to 0-100 km/h (0-62.1 mph) in just about 3.5 seconds with a self-imposed limited top speed of 149.1 mph. It can reach 124.3 mph in about 12 seconds thanks to the dual electric motors, one powering the front axles, the other powering the rear. All-wheel steering is implemented for exceptional directional stability.

Range is in the 400 kilometers (248.5 mi) before needing a recharge. Charging times are reduced by the 800-volt charging system employed in the Audi E-Tron GT. By the 20 minute mark, batteries will be charged to 80 percent of their capacity.

Lastly, the architecture: As mentioned, the “flat-floor” architecture is closely related to Porsche’s Mission E. By positioning the batteries between the front and rear axles taking up the entire underfloor, Audi was able to optimize center of gravity resulting in improved aero and more stable weight transitions.

With all this high tech wizardry at their disposal, Audi seems to have orchestrated another break through automobile both in technology and design.

By 2025, Audi says to expect “twelve automobiles with all-electric drive”. We are living in very exciting times.
